AMBER: Journeys Beyond Win Comp: yes VDMSound: no DOSBox: no
This game seems to be firmly rooted in 1996, the date of its origin. You can try any combination of Win 95/98 Compatibility Mode, but you always get the following results... upon starting, AMBER immediately throws an error:
Script error: Handler not defined
#MOVUTILS
Then you can Continue, and the Hue Forest logo comes up, music plays, and you imagine that the error message may have been a glitch... but your hopes are all too soon dashed by another script error: #newGame and that's about as far as you get. So far as I know, no one has found a way around these problems.
Note: in a bitter twist, some bright spark has written the following in capsule reviews of AMBER that are scattered all over the web if you search for something like 'amber journeys xp':
"...As for XP, yes this game will work on XP, if you run it in compatibility mode for Windows 95 or 98. Compatibility mode isn't a feature of Windows2000, so that's why you won't be able to run it on that platform"
Yeah, right, pull the other leg. By the way, just for the record, Compatibility Mode is most certainly a feature of Windows 2000 (SP2 and upwards), although it's admittedly a bit obscured. To enable it in Windows 2000, just:
Start -> Run, and enter:
regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll
Now when you select any programme's shortcut and right-click on it, you will see a Compatibility tab
